Bastian Entrup
IoniaArchaeological Travel Guide
More than 20 ancient sites between İzmir and Iasos – from the great ruined cities to the places behind the small brown signs.
Where you can still meet antiquity on your own
For more than 20 years, I have been traveling regularly to Western Turkey, to the region south of Izmir – the region that the Romans called Asia and which was called Ionia even earlier. And for over 20 years, I have been visiting and photographing the ancient sites there: starting with Ephesus, Miletus and Priene, later the smaller, more hidden places, always following those small brown signs with white lettering.
Before my last trip I was looking for an archaeological travel guide to the excavations of Asia Minor. I found none. The result is this book – and an unexpectedly long list of places I have not yet visited.
